Sometimes, when I forget how incredibly time consuming the food service world is, I think I would love to open a little cafe or food truck and serve sandwiches like this. 

This would be a hit because it's not that expensive and would be easy to make a bunch of these really fast. Just making the 1 (I had pre-roasted the garlic ahead of time for various uses) took me all of 5 minutes to make.


This sandwich is: toasted sprouted grain bread w/ avocado, arugula, red onion, roasted garlic, hot sauce and a egg over easy. keyword: EASY

My friend Chandra was making this in the Central Kitchen of Cafe Gratitude last spring and I got hooked. Cilantro is good for detoxing heavy metals from your body, grapefruit is great for cleansing your liver and is nearly alkaline depending on your research. Avocados are great for... lots of stuff! The list goes on and on, Jalapeno pepper is good for circulation and mint is great for your digestion. This smoothie makes a lot, but it's so tasty I can drink it all in one sitting: 4 cups grapefruit, i bunch of cilantro, 1 bunch of mint, 1 avocado and some jalapeno (depends on how hot you want it).

I start my oatmeal early, because I like it to be perfectly cooked- not mushy. I add 2 parts boiling water to my oats and seal the container tight for 25 minutes off the heat. This cooks them perfect every time.

In a separate pan I carmelized some apple slices with a little bit of butter on medium low heat. when this was pretty much ready i crushed some walnuts into the pan with a pinch of nutmeg, cinnamon a little bit of cardamom, salt and a tablespoon of maple syrup and cooked it for 1 minute. This meal is fast and delicious.

 

Coracao LOVE

Serious about chocolate: Coracao Confections. Yesterday, at the farmer's market they were out of their almond butter cups. I ended up buying two "baby bars," and making an almond butter sandwich at home. I mixed the almond butter with their coconut palm syrup, so it was perfect. This was shared with 3 people.

Coconut sugar is lower on the glycemic index than regular sugar, which means it wont crack you out as much. Honestly, I'm still looking into this statement for truth, but it sure does taste great. Raw chocolate has great health benefits, and buying from your local chocolatiers is good for the economy and health of your community. Big love and thanks to the crew and magic behind Coracao.
